Abstract

A series of centrifuges are used to separate solid and liq. phases, each centrifuge being supplied from a feed tank contg. solids from the preceeding centrifuge and liq. from the following centrifuge. By introducing wash water to the feed tank at the last stage of the process, soluble matls. may be extd. and drawn off as liquor from the first stage. Washed solids are discharged from the last stage. The process is applicable to any number of stages >two. Appts. is for solid-liquid extn. processes, such as extn. of malt from grains in brewing processes. It permits rapid and efficient extn. of soluble matls.
