Abstract
1,119,098. Rolling. KABEL-UND METALLWERKE GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE A.G. 2 Sept., 1966 [4 Sept., 1965], No. 39260/66. Heading B3M. A guide, for returning sheets to the pass of a non-reversible two-high rolling mill, includes a cage 3 embracing the upper, adjustable, roll 2 and carrying pairs of sheet-feeding rollers 6. The rollers 6 are driven at the same peripheral speed as the roll 2 by rollers 4 which provide a chain drive 7 and also serve to support the cage on the roll. Rollers or balls 9 prevent contact between the sheet and cage. A doctor blade 10 at the exit side of the rolls carries a hydraulically or pneumatically-operated rocker 11 which either directs a sheet around the guide (as shown), or, when retracted, directs it clear of the mill. The rocker may be operated manually, or automatically using one or two sensors 14. The sensors are of electro-optical, mechanical, capacitive, or radio-active type, and sense the beginning and end of a sheet to monitor its length, the position of the rocker, and also the adjustment of the top roll 2, thus being controlled.
