Abstract
1,118,766. Builder motion. MAREMONT CORP. 7 Oct., 1965 [7 Oct., 1964], No. 42645/65. Heading DID. Pick-mechanism for incorporation between the builder-arm and winding elements of. a spinning &c., frame, through which the traverse and gain are transmitted to the winding elements as the builder arm is reciprocated, comprises differential mechanism having an input gear for connection to the builder arm, an output gear for connection to the winding elements, and a planetary gear meshing the input and output gears for transmitting the reciprocatory movement of the builder arm from the input to the output gear, and movable for imparting a stepped advance to the output gear relative to the input gear, and a clutch release device operable to disconnect the elements from the output gear, e.g. to allow the elements to run to a position where an upper bunch can be wound. In Fig. 2, the ring-rail is connected at 26 to a pulley on a windlass shaft 24, the other side of the pulley being connected at 32 to the pickmechanism 34 which is also connected at 36 to the builder arm 28. The windlass shaft is also connected at 44 by an arm 42 to a long torsion-bar 40 (see Specification 1005013. The torsion-bar tends to raise the ring-rail, and the down stroke of the traverse is effected as the heart-cam 30 depresses the arm 28, and the up-stroke as the cam allows the bar to rise under the influence of the torsion bar. The chain 36 is connected to a sleeve 60 forming the input element of a differential, and the chain 32 to a member 95 clutched at 97 to the output element 68. Meshing with internal teeth on the sleeves 60, 68 are the component gears of a compound gear 70. The gear 70 is rotatably mounted in a sleeve 62 connected to a ratchet wheel 76. For the traverse, the oscillations of the sleeve 60 brought about by the chain 36 rock the gear 70 bodily and are thus transmitted to the sleeve 68, the sleeve 95 and chain 36. For the gain, at the end of each traverse stroke, pawls 78, 80, held off by a cover 84 for most of the stroke, are allowed to engage the ratchet wheel 76 and hold it stationary so that the gear rotates on its pivot. The output gear 66 has slightly fewer teeth than the input gear 65 whereby the output gear is advanced relatively to the input gear. As this happens, a spring 114 connected at one end to the input gear and at the other to sleeve 95 is gradually wound up. At the end of a set, the clutch 97 is released by a lever 100, so that the torsion bar, acting through the chain 32, raises the ring- rail to a position where an upper bunch is wound, the spring 114 being further tensioned. When a gear 46 is rotated to reset the mechanism, the pull of the chain 32 is released, and the spring 114 restores the sleeve 95, to its original ,position. If desired, an over-riding clutch wedge and roller clutch 90 may be included between the sleeves 94 and 68; this clutch is kept engaged by the effect of the torsion bar. When this clutch is provided, there is no need to keep the clutch 97 in released position when the effect of the torsion bar is released to re-set the parts.
