Abstract

1,118,333. Floating breakwaters. WIFO FINANZIERUNGS A.G. 19 Jan., 1966 [19 Jan., 1965], No. 2575/66. Heading E1H. A marine breakwater comprises a series of floating units 1 anchored to the sea bed 25, each floating unit 1 consisting of a pair of floating cylinders 2, 3 spaced apart by connecting bars 4 and which support a metal structure 7 formed with a series of conduits 11 leading from apertures 12 bounded by cylindrical deflectors 9, 13, 17, 18 which form the oblique front of the structure facing the oncoming wave. Each aperture 12 receives a portion of the oncoming wave and conveys it downwardly in the direction of the arrow x Cylinders 2, 3 are fitted with keels 5, 6 respectively the depths of which may be proportional to the depth of the sea bed. The cylinders are joined together by eye-pieces 21 to form the breakwater. In another embodiment the floating unit consists of single floating cylinder 30. Fig. 3 (not shown) and ballast 48 returns the floating unit to its original position. In a further embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown) the discharge portions of the conduits are disposed below the water-line of the floating unit.
