Abstract

1,118,242. Cooling electric motors. SINGER CO. 26 July, 1965. [6 Aug., 1964],No. 31685/65. Heading H2A. In a multispeed portable electric tool, such as a sander or polisher, a circuit module 32 including a semi-conductor controlled rectifier and a circuit board removably mounted' on the exterior of the metallic tool housing 10, for effecting the speed control of the tool motor, is electrically connected to the motor and is enclosed within a removable insulating cover 46 such that cooling air circulated by a fan 23 attached to the motor shaft 20 flows through holes 48 in the cover 46, over the circuit module, through inlet apertures 25 inthe housing and out through outlet apertures 24 at the front of the tool housing. Electrical connections from the motor windings pass through the inlet apertures 25 of the housing, for connection to the circuit module 32 by solderless connectors. 41 and terminal 49. The cover 46 may be of plastics material and the circuit board 32' is secured to housing 10 by a resilient mounting: provided by grommets 43 and bolts 42. The control circuit is shown (Fig. 5, not shown).
