Abstract
Hydrogen is produced by the Shift reaction in the presence of a catalyst containing Cu, Zn and Fe oxides. Examples describe the comparative testing of catalysts using a standard gas mixture at 260 DEG C, 1 atmosphere and G.H.S.V. of 5000. As an optional constituent the catalyst may contain Cr2O3.ALSO:Shift reaction catalysts comprise 1-30% CuO. 1-60% ZnO and 5-98% Fe2O3. Additionally the catalyst may contain up to 5% Cr2O3. Conventional methods of preparation are described, e.g. coprecipitation, slurrying and simple admixture of solids. The catalyst may be tabletted to 6 mm. size. Conventional carriers for shift reaction catalysts are also described e.g. SiO2, quartz powder, Kieselguhr, Al2O3, MgO, alkaline earth carbonates, titanium dioxide or bleaching earth. Comparative examples demonstrate the efficiency of the catalysts against those of the prior art.
