Abstract

1387779 Oxidation of nitric oxide TORAY INDUSTRIES Inc 24 Aug 1973 [7 Sept 1972 31 March 1973] 40328/73 Heading ClA Nitric oxide is oxidized to nitrogen dioxide in the presence of a catalyst comprising manganese dioxide and an iron, cobalt or nickel oxide at a temperature between 100‹ and 400‹ C. The nitric oxide may be a component of a waste gas stream which may also contain water vapour. The concentration of oxygen in the stream may be above 0À5% by volume. Any oxide of iron, cobalt or nickel may be employed. The catalyst may be in the form of pellets and contain additives or tabletting aids such as aluminium stearate, graphite, alumina or diatomaceous earth. The reaction may be carried out in a fixed or fluidized bed.
