[Also in Divisions A4 and B8] A machine, which may be coin-operated, dispensing toothpaste and toothbrushes, has the toothbrushes 20, Fig. 12, individually wrapped in plastic sheet 21 sealed between each brush and formed into a roll or zig-zag pack stored in container space 30, Fig. 5, the sheet being led over roll 31 and down guide 32 to a star roller 33, Figs. 9, 12, which is manually rotated by handle 52 to entrain one tooth-brush which is severed from the sheet by knife 41 moved into slot 37 by cam 47, acting on crank 40, 45 when accurately positioned by pawl 77 entering notch 76. A coin in shoot 51, 53, Figs. 14, 9, cams on abutment 61 to depress plunger 58, 60, allowing the star roller to be rotated via ratchet-wheel 71 and pawl 72 and pass the coin to retainer 54, a kick plate, notch cam and spring-loaded roller accurately aligning shoots 51, 53, 54. Reverse movement of handle 52 in which the stop roller stays still, rotates cam 47 via ratchet-wheel 73 and pawl 74 to actuate knife 41 and via linkage 105, 103 to move a toothpaste pump 90 for container 101 so that pump handle 95 and delivery nozzle 120 are withdrawn from shroud 117. In dispensing paste, a pump plunger finger 112 removes retaining pawl 109 from notched plate 111 allowing spring 108 to retract the pump handle and nozzle. When the last brush is dispensed, a spring guide 78 moves on to the star roller and releases via 79, 80 a resettable, spring plate 81 closing the coin slot 55.
