Abstract

111,692. Carey, R. F. Nov. 15, 1916. Revolving-cylinder pumps.-In hydraulic pumps, motors, clutches, &c., of the kind having a number of cylinders revolving round a central axis, and in which the valve or fluid-distributing device consists of a series of ports or passages in the rotor connecting the cylinders periodically to pressure or exhaust ports in a non-rotating member against which the end of the rotor is held, the non-rotating member or valve plate G is pivoted so that it can be adjusted to the rotor by the pressure in the apparatus. The plate G is preferably pivoted on an adjusting screw L, and in connexion with each port H, I a pressure area and abutment are provided. These areas may be formed by circular recesses S in the back of the plate G in which are situated plungers, spigots, &c. R forming part of the passage from the ports in the valve plate to the pipes connected to the casing. The pressure in the recesses S forces the plate G against the rotor. The rotor may be pressed towards the plate by a thrust bearing with screw adjustment or by admitting pressure through a throw-over valve D in the plate G and a passage B to a space A at the opposite end of the rotor. Replenishing and relief valves may be arranged in the plate G.
