Abstract
1,116,880. Non-reciprocal phase-shifters. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO. Inc. 14 Oct., 1965 [14 Oct., 1964], No. 43550/65. Heading H1W. The gyromagnetic element 25 of a non- reciprocal phase-shifter is disposed in the region of largest spacing between an outer conductor 2 and an eccentrically positioned inner conductor 1. The element 25 is in the form of a sectorial slab of e.g. ferrite, and has a central portion 26 filled with dielectric material less dissipative than the ferrite. A closed-loop saturation magnetization is produced in the element by means of a current pulse applied to winding 6. Reversal of the magnetization produces a different value of phase shift. Several elements affording increments of phase-shift may be arranged in tandem with dielectric spacers between them. Tapered matching elements of dielectric material are positioned at either end of the element or series of elements.
