Abstract

1,116,591. Casting processes. BRITISH IRON & STEEL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. 3 Aug., 1965 [3 May, 1964], No. 13830/64. Heading B3F. In a method of teeming steel from a ladle 2 into a mould 7, the molten steel is passed through a region of inert gas which is formed by an openended tube 6, extending from a point spaced from the ladle to a point within the mould, and through which the inert gas is passed, from a position intermediate the ends of the tube, both prior to and during teeming. The molten steel is thus shielded as it passes from the ladle to the mould. The tube 6 extends into the mould to a point near the bottom thereof and is dissolved or decomposed as the level of metal in the mould rises.
