Abstract

1,115,912. Pump motors. H. SCHAAK, [trading as MASCHINENFABRIK PAUL LEISTRITZ]. 24 June, 1965 [25 June, 1964], No. 26862/65. Heading H2A. A submersible pump assembly 1 comprises a pump 2 driven by a coaxial electric motor 3 comprising a rotor 20 and a stator 21 disposed in a housing 10 having at one end an inlet opening or openings through which enters the whole of the pump liquid flow stream and at the other end an outlet opening or openings through which the stream leaves the housing, the stream dividing after entering the housing into respective parts which pass between the stator and the housing and through the gap between the rotor and the stator to rejoin adjacent the other end of the housing, and there being no significant restrictions to flow between the location where the stream divides and the gap, and the gap and the location where it rejoins. As shown, the assembly is in a vessel 4 which the liquid, e.g. oil, enters through an inlet 5 and leaves through a pipe 30 the motor being at the delivery side of the pump although in Fig. 2 (not shown), it is at the intake side. The motor and pump have a common two-part shaft 13, 14 linked by a plug coupling 15 and borne in bearings 17, 19 subjected to the full pump pressure by virtue of a bore 26 collecting spaces 25, 28, and bores 27, 13A whereby they are cooled and lubricated. The housing end shield may mount a filter, and in a modification, Fig. 3, an extension of the shaft 13 through the end shield 11 carries a flywheel 47 that is interchangeable or alterable in its effect. The motor windings may be impregnated or encased in epoxy resin, and the pump may have axial thrust compensation.
