Abstract

1,115,742. Starting I.C. engines. MAR-LIN SAFETY DEVICES Inc. 26 March, 1965 [28 April, 1964], No. 12969/65. Heading H2H. [Also in Division F1] Generally the means for providing increased output from the battery 14 comprises an oscillator 20, a coupling 21 and a rectifier circuit 22 for transferring the oscillator output added to that of the battery to the ignition coil. The delivery of energy to the coil is controlled in response to changes in the engine's cranking speed and a greater quantity of energy is added to that of the battery when the engine speed is low. The oscillator 20 includes a capacitor 19. To produce oscillations a feedback circuit couples the output circuit to the input electrodeof the transistor.When the oscillator 20 is supplying energy to the ignition coil circuit the secondary 35 of the transformer 21 may be considered as an auxiliary or second source whose output is added to that being supplied by the battery 14. The circuit includes a switch which is closed only during starting operations of the engine. For purposes of illustration this switch is shown as part of a manual switch 15 which in the start position completes one circuit through the battery and ignition coil 10 and another circuit through the battery and the starter solenoid 17.
