Abstract

1,115,322. Ignition systems. MITSUBISHI DENKI KABUSHIKI - KAISHA. Aug.26, 1965 [Aug. 27, 1964], No. 36768/65. Heading F1B. An ignition system comprises a source of direct current 10, a transformer having a primary winding 16 energized by the source and a secondary winding 18 for generating a voltage for use in igniting the engine, mixture, a normally open switch element 50 connected to the source and capable of being closed to complete a circuit for energizing the starter motor 42, a closed circuit comprising one portion of the primary winding and the switch element and a semiconductor diode 54 connected in the closed circuit and so poled that a current can flow from the source through the closed switch element into the remaining portion of the primary winding whereas current is prevented from flowing from the source through the one portion of the primary winding to the starting motor as shown the invention is applied to a condenser discharge system. In a modification the blocking oscillator 26 and the condenser 28 are dispensed with an embodiment employing a pushpull oscillator is described. Instead of the manually operated switch 50 the relay contacts 46 may be utilised to short circuit one portion of the primary winding.
