[Also in Division E2] An indicator bolt fastening device comprises a bolt and handle assembly 1 adapted to be secured to the inside face of a door of an apartment, an indicator assembly adapted to be secured to the other side of the door to display an appropriate word such as '' engaged " or " vacant " of a sign 12 and coupling means to operatively connect these assemblies together so that operation of the handle to move the bolt will also change the word displayed, the indicator assembly comprising a casing 5 provided with fixing screw holes 7, an indicator shaft 9 rotatably secured to the casing and means 14 operatively connecting the shaft with an indicator slide 9 slidably carried by the casing and bearing said sign 12 and a flanged cover plate 24 fitted on to the casing so as to obscure the screw holes, the cover plate having a window aperture 25 through which the sign can be seen, the cover plate being removable so that access can be obtained to a release member 20 carried by the indicator shaft whereby in use the indicator shaft can be rotated to move the bolt of the bolt and handle assembly by way of the coupling means. The fork 4 is the stem of a T-shaped member the arms of the head of which constitute respectively the means 14 operatively connecting. the shaft 2 with the slide 9 and the release member 20. The head of the T-shaped member is received in a slot 16 in a shaft 2 and is secured to it by a split pin 17; the split pin also serves to hold the shaft 2 to the casing by bearing on a disc 18 which engages the inside face of the casing, the shaft 2 having a head which engages the outside face of the casing. The arms 14 and 20 of the T-shaped member pass through a slot in the disc and an aperture in the casing front wall and the arm 14 engages a sector-shaped aperture 15 in the slide 9 to move the slide; the arm 20 of the T-shaped member has a lug 201 which projects through the disc 18 to lie within arcuate slot 23 forming part of the opening in the front wall of the casing so that it is accessible for movement by the tool if the cover plate is removed; the indicator slide has two studs 11 which carry the sign, the sign having " engaged " or " vacant " markings on both sides so arranged that the indicator assembly can be used for both right-hand and left-hand doors.
