815,427. Weighing apparatus. WESTMAN, W. E. Oct. 2, 1957, No. 30783/57. Class 143 A piece of luggage 6 is provided with a weighing device comprising a cross member 9 attached to the normal carrying handle 16 by pins 11 which are slidable in a housing 2, 3 and are surrounded by compression springs 13 which, together with springs 18 located between the housing wall 2 and member 9, counterbalance the load. Movement of member 9 is communicated by a rack and pinion 20, 22 to a rotary indicating drum 25. A horizontally slidable member 29 (Fig. 1, not shown) is movable between lugs 19 on member 9 and plate 2 to relieve and lock the weighing mechanism when the luggage is to be carried.
