Abstract
1,115,421. Blasting mats. C. F. LUNDIN, and J. H.-U. E. SPEER. 31 May, 1966 [31 May, 1965], No. 24283/66. Heading F3A. A blasting mat for covering the site at which an explosive charge has been laid so as to dampen the subsequent detonation waves and to prevent the spreading of debris, comprises a plurality of tubes 1 made of flexible material, e.g. rubber or polyolefines, and disposed parallel to one another, wherein wire 10 passes longitudinally through the tubes to reinforce the mat, and wire 3 passes transversely of the mat through holes in the tubes to hold the tubes together. The wire 10 may follow a tortuous path back and forth through the tubes. The tubes which may lie closely adjacent to each other or be spaced apart with the aid of distancepieces (not shown), may be filled with heavy and blast dampening material, e.g. sand, and closed at both ends. Two mats A and B may be placed side-by-side and the bends in the wires 10 of each mat, situated opposite each other, woven or bound together by means of an additional wire threaded in the bends. On firing the explosive charge the adjacent ends of the tubes in mats A and B hinge about the common joint and are displaced into each other to give a looking effect.
