Abstract

517,911. Flexible armour. HUINEMAN, K. J., and DULLAERT, A. J. Jan. 11, 1939, No. 918. Convention date, Nov. 16, 1938. [Class 113 (ii)] Flexible bullet-proof armour consists of parallel strips of spirally - wound steel wire 1 the ends of the convolutions of adjacent strips overlapping to provide aligned interstices through which extend longitudinal parallel lengths of wire 2 arranged in a single plane and having. a crosssectional area substantially equal to that of the interstices, the wires 2 serving as hinges for the strips 1. The ends of adjacent convolutions may be looped through, or merely extend between,' one another. The strips may be of flattened or oval cross-section, and each single wire 2 may be replaced by two or more wires. The armour may be covered or filled with rubber, cork, leather, or other flexible material.
