Abstract
540,886. Wire ropes &c. BRITISH ROPES, Ltd., and SMITH, J. April 3, 1940, No. 6006. Drawings to Specification. [Class 109] Wire ropes or cords of a diameter not materially exceeding 0.125 inches are composed of strands, some of which comprise wires of right-hand lay, while an equal or approximately equal number of strands comprise wires of lefthand lay. Stranded or other cores of steel or non-ferrous material may be used. A permanent set may be imparted to the wires or strands by known treatment such as passing them through a suitable lay-plate. The completed ropes may also be crimped and embedded in rubber to form conveyer bands and the tread and/or Specifications 20690/04 and 227,950, [both in Class 109], are referred to.
