Abstract

1,114,682. Radiation pyrometers. BRITISH IRON & STEEL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. May 8, 1967 [Feb. 7, 1966], No. 5228/66. Heading G1D. A protective head 2 for a radiation pyrometer comprises a bore having a conical portion 5 leading to a sighting aperture 4 and an inlet 7 for introducing air in a direction tangential to the bore, the air passing along the bore towards the aperture 4 to deflect any unwanted particles either before they enter the bore or towards the inner walls of the bore. The pyrometer is adapted for use with an arc furnace and may be directed towards a part in the furnace, the head 2 protecting the lens system of the pyrometer.
