Abstract

1,114,434. Railway vehicle undercarriages. SUMITOMO METAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 24 Aug., 1965 [29 Aug., 1964; 31 March, 1965], No. 36376/65. Heading B7L. Each end of a bolster 2, Fig. 3, is snubbed by a pair of coaxial friction shoes slidable in tubular liners 7 in left and right-hand openings in the bolster and having end surfaces with flanges (9), Fig. 4 (not shown), engaging wear plates 8 on the columns of the bolster receiving opening in the bogie side frame 1, the shoes being urged against the plates 8 by a wedge member 5 and a spring 6 parallel to the bolster springs 3. The wedge member has guides (10), Fig. 7 (not shown), to prevent movements of the shoes relative to the wedge in the longitudinal direction of the bolster. The crosssection of the shoes 4 is of H-shape in plan. The bolster-engaging portion of the shoe may be cylindrical as described with reference to Fig. 6 (not shown). In this case the inclined face of the shoe, engageable with the wedge 5, is provided at each side with a step (11) to engage against the associated wedge guide (10).
