Abstract

An arrangement for measuring voltage, such as that arising at the spark plug of an I. C. engine, includes a resistive potential divider for scaling down the voltage in a known proportion. The output from the divider is supplied to one input of a monostable multi-vibrator and adjusted until the multi-vibrator changes state, the change of state being indicated by a meter or other device. The variation between the maximum and minimum voltages at a spark plug can be determined by setting the potential divider to zero and adjusting it until the multi-vibrator just changes state occasionally, the indicator showing that the circuit is just pulsating irregularly. Further adjustment is then carried out until steady pulsation is observed.
