Abstract
A process for producing cyclohexanone comprises oxidizing a liquid mixture of cyclohexane and cyclohexanol containing from 0.04 to 0.09 mole of cyclohexanol per mol. of cyclohexane, with an oxygen-containing gas at elevated temperature and superatmospheric pressure in the presence of a cyclohexane oxidation catalyst which is soluble in the reaction mixture and recovering the cyclohexanone thus produced. Preferred catalysts are cobalt and manganese salts of naphthenic, acetic and stearic acids. Organic peroxides, of which several are specified, hydrogen peroxide and sodium peroxide, may be employed as oxidation initiators. Examples are furnished.
