Abstract
A process for producing cyclohexanone comprises oxidizing a liquid mixture of cyclohexane and cyclohexanol containing 0.04 to 0.85 mole of oxygen containing gas at elevated temperature and superatmospheric pressure in the presence of a metal cyclohexane oxidation catalyst which is insoluble in the reaction mixture and recovering the cyclohexanone thus produced. Preferred catalyst are manganese and cobalt in the forms of oxides or carbonates. Many other catalysts are specified. Known cyclohexane oxidation initiators may be employed in the process. Examples are furnished.
