Abstract

1,113,062. Arc rupturing in switches. A. REYROLLE & CO. Ltd. 16 July, 1965 [17 April, 1964], No. 16081/64. Heading H1N. An arc shoot comprises a pair of insulating walls 18 defining a central tunnel 15 leading into aligned spaces between the legs of a plurality of U-shaped mild steel splitter plates 10 which spaces 14 are closed at their edges by an insulating cowl 30 and discharge downwardly outside the walls 18 into passages 35 which lead to openings (39) at each end of the shoot. Alternate halves of the spaces 14 are blocked by extensions 11 of the insulating cowl 30 so that the spaces discharge alternately to opposite sides of the shoot. The shoot is mounted in an insulating housing 36 made in two parts sealed together by a sealing strip 42 and secured by bolts 43. The housing 36 is mounted in a metal cubicle 47 by lugs 44 and expanded rubber buffers 46. Associated with the shoot are a pair of arc runners 26, (27) connected respectively with a pair of pivotally movable contacts (20, 21). The passages 35 are blocked at the centre of the shoot by a wall 37.
