Abstract

1,112,559. Bearings. TEXTRON Inc. 10 Aug., 1965, No. 34191/65. Heading F2A. A roller bearing comprises rollers each having a recess 34 in each end and being retained in respective recesses in the cage by projections 46 swaged from the cage to extend into recesses 34, the radius of the pitch circle of the rollers being equal to the mean radius of the cage. In Fig. 2 the recesses 34 are frustoconical, and the projections are partly frustoconical with radially outer and inner surfaces flush with the adjacent cage portion. To assemble the cage and rollers with an outer race with a recessed raceway (Fig. 2) or an inner race (Fig. 12, not shown), the cage is positioned with respect to the race, the rollers inserted from the side of the cage remote from the race, and projections 46 formed by axial swaging.
