Headings F4G and F4U. The apparatus of Specification 1,028,242 for drying webs by vertical movement through a fluidized bed of heated solid particles is modified by having the projections, which extend into proximity with the web from baffles on the side walls, formed by rows of interrupted form presenting passages so arranged that upwardly moving gas and solid particles adjacent the web have imparted thereto a flow pattern of generally zig-zag or other weaving form.
