Abstract

<FORM:1111733/C2/1> and <FORM:1111733/C2/2> Novel 1-hydroxy piperidine derivatives of the Formula I, wherein X represents an ethylene or vinylene group, and acid addition salts thereof, are prepared by solvolysing a compound of the Formula II wherein Ac represents the acyl radical of a non-condensed aromatic mono- or di-carboxylic acid having at most 10 carbon atoms and, if desired, converting the resulting compound into an acid addition salt thereof. 1-Acyloxy-piperidine derivatives of the Formula II may be prepared by reacting the corresponding 1-unsubstituted piperidine derivatives with an appropriate acyl peroxide. Therapeutic compositions which antagonize the action of serotonin and are suitable for the treatment of inflammatory conditions, and which may take forms suitable for oral, parenteral or topical administration, comprise compounds of the Formula I and their non-toxic salts together with a suitable carrier.
