Abstract

1,187,903. Indole derivatives. SUMITOMO CHEMICALS CO. Ltd. 24 Sept., 1968 [29 Sept., 1967 (2)], No. 45398/68. Heading C2C. The invention comprises compounds of formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is H, C 1-3 alkyl, C 1-3 alkoxy, C 1-3 alkylthio or halogen; R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are each H, Ph or C 1-3 alkyl; R<SP>4</SP> is pyridyl or styryl; R<SP>5</SP>, R<SP>6</SP> and R<SP>7</SP> are each H or Ac; R<SP>8</SP> is H or C 1-3 alkyl; and n is 0, 1 or 2. These compounds are prepared by (a) reacting the parent indolealkanoic acid or its alkali metal salt with glucnronic acid or its derivative bearing substituents corresponding to those in the above formula, or with a 2- halide or other reactive ester of the said glucuronic acid or derivative; and (for those compounds where R<SP>5</SP>, R<SP>6</SP>, R<SP>7</SP> and R<SP>8</SP> are each H); (b) feeding a non-human mammal with the parent indolealkanoic acid or its alkali metal salt, and extracting the wire after acidification with an inert organic solvent. Therapeutic compositions for oral administration comprise compounds of the above formula, which are anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
