Abstract
Racemic and optically active 1-(p-hydroxyphenyl) - 2 - [21 - (p - hydroxyphenyl) - ethylamino] propanol and acid addition salts thereof are prepared by standard methods, such as reducing an aminoketone of the general formula <FORM:1111451/C2/1> (wherein Y and Y1 represent hydroxy or etherified or esterified hydroxy groups) or an acid addition salt thereof and hydrolysing or hydrogenolysing the product if necessary, optionally followed by salt formation, separation of a mixture of the racemates and/or resolution. The preparation of aminoketones of the above general formula is described. The compounds of the invention possess uterospasmolytic and broncholytic activity, and may be administered in the form of pharmaceutical preparations containing them together with a carrier.
