Abstract

1,211,459. Hydroxyamines. ABBOTT LABORATORIES: 17 April, 1968 [10 May, 1967], No. 18195/68. Heading C2C. Compounds of the general formulµ (AR = aryl, arylene; X = O, S, NCH 3 , CH = CH, CH 2 CH 2 or single bond; NR 2 = N- (C 1-7 alkyl)piperazino, pyrrolidino, (C 1-7 alkyl)pyrrolidino, N-(C 1-7 alkyl)homopiperazino, di-(C 1-7 alkyl)amino, piperidino, (C 1-7 alkyl)piperidino) and their acid addition salts are prepared by reacting the appropriate diaryl or diarylene ketone with an alkali metalreducing agent, alkylating the product with the sodium formaldehyde bisulphite derivative of the appropriate secondary amine and acidifying the reaction mixture, optionally followed by salt formation. The preparation of the sodium formaldehyde bisulphite derivatives (starting materials) is described. The above compounds are antispasmodic agents and central nervous system depressants, and may be administered in the form of pharmaceutical preparations containing them in association with a carrier.
