Abstract

A composite doubled yarn is formed by hot and/or cold drawing, to similar or different extents, two or more separate or combined, usually twistless, yarns of different colours or of different dye affinities (thereby eventually to produce multicoloured, streak-free fabrics such as tufted carpets when dyed in the fabric form) and separating and/or maintaining them separate up to the point where they are intertwisted so as to produce a twist of less than 40 turns per metre in the final yarn. The drawing and doubling may be effected as a single continuous process and the doubled yarn may be crimped e.g. in a stuffer-box. The component yarns may be of a polyamide and/or polyester.
