Abstract

1,110,941. Life-saving apparel and propulsion means. A. WOZNIAK. 26 Oct., 1964 [24 July, 1963], No. 3008/63. Headings B7U and B7V. [Also in Division A6] A buoyant propulsion unit 2 for aquatic life-saving comprises a handle 15 and a buoyant member fastened thereto having a different shape on two opposite sides or faces, said unit being adapted to be moved through the water to provide a propelling action therein. The unit 2 may be of a buoyant foam material or be inflatable, e.g. formed of concentric tubes inflatable from a compressed air bottle or pump accommodated in the handle (Fig. 5, not shown). In Fig. 3 the person using the unit is wearing a buoyancy member 1 from which the unit is prevented from becoming disconnected by means of a cord 18. The handle may be angle-shaped for attachment to a person's fore arm (Fig. 6, not shown), or may have a handle so that the unit may be used by a canoeist.
