975,659. Collapsible bulwarks. L. M. A. TRUFFERT, and P. WALTER. July 4, 1962 [July 6, 1961], No. 25689/62. Headings B7A and B7S. A protective device for boats comprises a flexible bulwark 4 of a material less dense than water, e.g. cellular foamed plastic, cork or wood, arranged on the gunwale of the boat, the bulwark comprising on one of its longitudinal edges a tongue 1 thinner than the remainder of the bulwark and forming a hinge which tongue when fixed to the boat by bonding or other means permits the bulwark to be raised under the action of waves encountering the bulwark. The bulwark is stiffened at 6 and thickened at 4 1 so that in the lowered position it may be used as a seat. A chain 5 retains the bulwark in the raised position under the impact of waves.
