Abstract
1,110,289. Linking machines. UNDERWOOD & PERRY (LEICESTER) Ltd. 27 Feb., 1967 [25 Nov., 1965], No. 50049/65. Heading D1G. In a linking machine having a rotary point ring mounted on a stationary dial plate supported centrally by an arm extending from a mounting base spaced outwardly from the point ring, and having a needle and co-operating looper positioned one within and the other outside the circular row of points, the needle and looper are operated by cam mechanism positioned outwardly of the space between the point ring and base. An arm 15 is fixed at one end to a mounting base 16, and at the other end, by means of a rod 19, to the centre of a dial (17) journalling a ring 22 carrying radial points 23. A shaft 10, driven by a pulley (18), is journalled in arm 15 and in brackets 12, (13) upstanding from base 16. A shaft 11, driven via gears 26, 27 from shaft 10, drives ring 22 via a gear box 24. A needle 31 is carried by an arm 36 pivoted at 37 to arm 15. An eccentric 34 on shaft 10 is coupled by a pitman 38 to arm 36 for oscillating the latter. A barrel cam (35) on shaft 10 is coupled by an arm 45, pivoted intermediately on an adjustable vertical pin 47, to arm 36 for imparting to needle 31 a slow forward movement with the co-operating point 23 and a quick return movement. Needle 31 co-operates with a looper 32 mounted on a shaft 51, and with a loop-spreader 33 mounted on a shaft 56. Shaft 11 is provided, on the side of shaft 10 remote from ring 22, with cams 29 and 30. Cam 29 is coupled to shaft 51 via a linkage 58. 63, 65, and cam 30 is coupled to shaft 56 via a linkage 59, 67, 69 for imparting oscillation to the respective shafts 51 and 56.
