Abstract

1,109,472. Extruding aqueous colloid dispersions. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 13 May, 1965 [13 May, 1964], No. 20192/65. Heading B5A. An aqueous colloid dispersion in gelatine, e.g. a colour forming coupler dispersed in aqueous gelatine or a photographic gelatino-silver halide emulsion, is set in the form of noodles by being pumped via a metering pump 3 from a tank 1 through an extrusion nozzle 5 into circulating relatively cold water. The nozzle may have a plurality of orifices, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), and is lagged with, or formed from, thermally insulating material such as glass, polystyrene, unplasticized polyvinyl chloride or phenolic or melamine resins with filler, e.g. fibre glass. The noodles are washed to remove water soluble materials, melted and then suitably processed, e.g. in the case of a photographic emulsion, the melt is provided with sensitizers and other addenda and coated on to a support.
