Abstract

1,109,253. Change speed gear; disc brakes. KLOCKNER-HUMBOLDT-DEUTZ A.G. 27 May, 1965 [30 May, 1964], No. 22562/65. Headings F2D and F2E. An auxiliary two-speed planet gear for a motor vehicle comprises a direct drive one-way clutch 8 between input and output shafts 1, 9 and a stepped planet train 13 which bridges the clutch for overdrive ratio. The stepped planets 15, 16 mesh suns 4, 17 on the input and output shafts 1, 9 and the planet carrier 13 is held by a brake 42 for overdrive ratio. Brakes.-As shown the brake 42 comprises a rotatable disc 33 which is clamped between a housing 30 and presser plate 39 by springs 44. The brake is released by axial movement of the inner ends of levers 47 which act through bolts 46 to draw the presser plate 39 away from the disc 33 whereupon the latter is moved away from the housing 30 by a spring 35. In Fig. 2 (not shown) a multidisc electromagnetically operated brake comprises rotatable discs 50 interleaved between discs 55 and an armature plate 56 splined to a housing 53. The brake is engaged by energizing an electromagnet 60. Control.-When the electromagnetically operated brake is used to hold the planet carrier the electromagnet 60 may be energized when the vehicle brake pedal is depressed to enforce overdrive ratio and provide engine braking.
