Abstract

1,109,047. Regulation I. C. engines. KUGELFISCHER GEORG SCHAFER & CO. May 16, 1966 [Feb.17, 1966], No.21607/66. Heading F1B. A spark-ignition I. C. engine fuel injection pump control means, in which the fuel quantity is adjusted in dependence on the weight of combustion air derived from the engine speed and the throttle setting, has the throttle preset to give an excess air condition and the fuel quantity adjusted in dependence on the engine speed corresponding to a control curve applicable only to that particular throttle valve setting whilst maintaining an excess air condition so that the increased air induction consequent on a fall in engine speed due to a load increase is accompanied by an increased fuel delivery sufficient to give a greater rise in torque with falling speed than that rise in torque due to the same fall in speed when the engine is controlled to give maximum power for each operating condition. The control method reduces or eliminates the carbon monoxide content of the exhaust gases and is described by reference to graphs which illustrate its effect compared known control methods.
