Abstract

An infra-red gas laser comprises a mixture of carbon dioxide, water vapour, mitrogen and helium as the active medium. The gases are contained in a quartz discharge tube 1 closed at one end by a concave mirror 4 coated with gold 5 and by a Brewster Angle plate 6 at its other The resonant cavity is formed by the mirror 4 and a further concave mirror 8, 9. Light is extracted from the laser by means of germaniumplate 7 and glass plate 10 coated with gold.
