Abstract

1,128,162. Lasers. G. & E. BRADLEY Ltd. 4 Jan., 1966 [11 Jan., 1965], No. 1212/65. Heading H1C. A laser has its resonant cavity defined by a pair of symmetrical corner prisms 12, 16, each prism having its light-transmitting front face inclined to the axis of stimulated emission 11 by an angle α corresponding to the complement of the Brewster angle. A gaseous laser is shown in which the output is obtained through a prism 18 adjacent corner prism 16 by the process of frustrated total internal reflection. Alternatively the output may comprise the residual reflection from the front face of one of the corner prisms. A liquid active medium could be used.
