1341411 Lasers NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 21 Oct 1971 [24 Nov 1970] 55748/70 Heading H1C [Also in Divisions H3-H5] An acousto-optic light intensity modulator operating by variably diffracting light out of a main optical path, and useful as a laser Q-switch, comprises a dense flint glass block having two plane parallel faces between which the optical path extends, and a third face to which no other face is parallel and which is provided with a piezo-electric transducer. The formation of standing acoustic waves is thereby avoided. As particularly described the block is a trapezoidal or triangular prism.
