Abstract

In a method of decorating a metal base, preferably of Au, Ag, Pt group metals or alloys of these, a metal decorating composition preferably containing Au, Ag, Pt, or Pd is applied to the base in a predetermined design e.g. by brushing, spraying, painting, dusting screen printing or transfers, then fired and pressed into the base, preferably by rolling. The decorating composition may comprise 60% by weight metal powder and 40% by weight of a liquid medium such as cellulose nitrate plus amyl lactate and castor oil; or ethyl cellulose plus hydrogenated wood rosin, xylol, butanol and dipentene. In an example a decorating composition containing yellow gold powder (96% Au, 1.5% Cu, 2.5% Ag) or white gold powder (80% Au, 10% Pt 10% Pd) in the form of flake maximum size of 25 microns is applied to a rolled gold sheet; fired at 600 DEG C and rolled to effect a 10% reduction.ALSO:In a method of decorating a metal base, preferably of Au, Ag, Pt group metals or alloys of these, a metal decorating composition preferably containing Au, Ag, Pt, or Pd is applied to the base in a predetermined design e.g. by brushing, spraying, painting, dusting screen printing or transfers, then fired and pressed into the base, preferably by rolling.
