Abstract

1,108,304. Ophthalmometers. GUILBERT ROUTIT & CIE. March 24, 1965 [March 25, 1964], No. 12513/65. Heading G2J. An ophthalmometer includes a set of two targets which are arranged to be projected on to the cornea of a patient's eye, the first target comprising a rectangular window 3 in which is traced a reference line 4 at right angles to a baseline 5 formed by one edge of the window, and the second target comprising a rectangular window 13 in which is traced a dioptric scale 14 along a base-line 15 formed by one edge of the window 13, the targets being mounted so that the image received through the ophthalmometer eyepiece after reflection at the cornea, appears as the continuous base-line with the reference line 4 registering with the scale 14. Each target further comprises two fiducial lines, 7, 9 or 21, 18 parallel to and equally spaced from the base-line 5 or 15 respectively. The apparatus is rotatable about its optical axis so that a reading may be taken with the ophthalmometer in each of two mutually perpendicular positions. Any difference between the two readings indicates the degree of astigmatism of the eye under examination.
