Abstract

1,107,021. Transistor pulse generating circuits. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 3 March, 1966 [11 March, 1965], No. 10329/65. Heading H3T. [Also in Division F1] A spark ignition system comprises a series circuit including a transistor 17, a regenerative feedback transformer 14 and an inductor 13, means for cutting off the current in the series circuit when it exceeds a given value whereby the inductor discharges into a capacitor 24 and means for discharging the capacitor into the spark system 22-27 while the transistor is conducting. In the circuit shown an initiating pulse at 49 cuts off the first transistor 31 of a cross-coupled pair and renders the second, 34, conducting. The pulse produced in winding 39 switches on a thyristor 23 to resonantly discharge a capacitor 24 into the spark system. At the same time a pulse in winding 38 switches on a transistor 17, conduction being assisted by a feedback winding 44. Current builds up through the transistor and the inductor 13 until the voltage across a resistor 18 is sufficient to restore the conducting states of transistors 31 and 34 to their original states and thus to switch off transistor 17. Capacitor 24 is then recharged by the resonant discharge of inductor 13.
