Abstract

A shampoo preparation comprises (a) salicyclic acid, (b) at least one anionic surface active agent and (c) one or more alkyl (C1 to C6) esters of phthalic acid and/or adipic acid. Methyl, ethyl, isopropyl and n-butyl esters are specified, anionic agents include, for example, dioctyl sodium sulphosuccinate, sodium laurylsulphoacetate, sodium laurylsulphate, sodium tetradecylsulphate, sodium dodecylsulphate, sodium dodecylbenzenesulphonate and triethanolamine laurylsulphate and the salicylic acid may be introduced in the form of a derivative hydrolysable thereto. Water may also be present and other additives may include cetanol, lanolin, glyceryl monostearate, lecithin, perfumes, colouring agents, thickening agents and antiseptic agents, e.g. benzoic acid and alkyl esters of p-hydroxybenzoic acid and hexachloro-phenol.ALSO:An antimicrobial shampoo composition comprises a) salicylic acid, b) at least on anionic surface active agent and c) one or more alkyl (C1 to C6) esters of phthalic acid and/or adipic acid. The antiseptic effect caused by the salicyclic acid may be accentuated by including agents such as benzoic acid and alkyl esters of p-hydroxybenzoic acid and hexachlorophenol. Water may also be present and other additives include cetanol, lanolin, glyceryl monostearate, lecithin, perfumes, and colouring and thickening agents.
