Abstract
110,555. Aktiebolaget Fucus, (Assignees of Bredenberg, A., and Cron, E.). Oct. 17, 1916, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Iodine; bromine.-Seaweed is treated to obtain iodine, bromine and other products by submitting it to dry distillation in a closed retort or still. The gaseous products are passed through a con. denser to separate tar products, formic and acetic acids, and substances resembling phenols, and the remaining gases are passed through a metal salt, such as a copper salt to absorb volatile compounds of iodine and bromine, and may afterwards be used as fuel. The solid residue from the distillation is extracted with water.
