Turning.-A turret T is mounted on a saddle S and is provided with a spindle T<1> carrying a bevel-wheel T<2> by which it is rotated, and disks B<2>, T<4>, the former forming the bottom race of a ball bearing B. A lever C, pivoted to the saddle, has inclined top and bottom surfaces C', C<5> which are brought into contact with the disks B<2>, T<4> respectively to raise the turret on the ball bearing free of the saddle so that it can be rotated easily or to lock it, by a screw D engaging a hand-operated internally-toothed nut E which is screwed into a bush F
