Abstract

117,564. Cochrane, A. G., and Kelly, A. E. Nov. 29, 1917. Turning.-In order to give the saddle K a central thrust when drilling through steel, an ordinary lathe, having the usual lead-screw L, may be fitted with a boring attachment comprising an extra lead-screw D driven from the screw L through a collar J, and change-speed gear F, G, mounted on a bracket E bolted to the bed at the opposite end to the headstock. A split nut, operated by a clutch block A, with cam slots, couples the saddle K to the screw D. The leadscrew D may be fitted with a ball-thrust bearing N.
