Abstract

15,973. Cole, W. L. Nov. 12. Turning.-Lathes for rough-turning, for example on shells, have the bed deflected laterally between the headstock and tailstock to leave clearance for cuttings and lubricant to fall. The bed is braced by a tie-rod 8, Fig. 2, connecting the head and tailstocks. The saddle slides on the surface g. The tailstock spindle is mounted in adjustable conical bearings n, Fig. 5, lubricated at 15. A yoke v, supported from the tailstock by bolts x, is the abutment for the feed-screw t locked at z. The centre and spindle q turn with the work, a ball thrust bearing s being provided. The cover 7 of the bearing may carry a lubricator. The headstock may be of the type described in Specification 13,284/15.
