Abstract
1,105,242. Computer microprogramming. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 28 April, 1965 [1 May, 1964], No. 18155/64. Heading G4A. In a computer microprogramme selection arrangement, a staticized address in an 8-bit register causes selection of one of 16 microprogramme units and selection of one of 16 " micro-order " units in the selected mieroprogramme unit. Each micro-order unit has twelve output leads (corresponding to twelve micro-instructions) each connected to a socket in a multisocket unit other sockets being connected to twelve groups of eight output leads, the connections between the sockets being formed by pre-wired plug units (not shown) inserted into the sockets, the wiring being according to desired micro-instructions, and being such that only one of the eight outputs in each of the twelve output groups will be energized in response to selection of a microorder unit. The outputs from the socket units are connected via repeater units to a microinstruction register to effect the desired computer control. The arrangement is applicable to the computer described in Specificatu 1,105,241 and 1,105,245.
